What Is Money?

Do you like this story?

Post written by Peter G. James Sinclair.

‘What’s money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night, and in between does what he wants to do.’ – Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan asked the question, ‘What’s money?’

Good question.

To ask the best questions will always position you to receive the best answers.

Make it your mission to perfect the art of questioning. Fine-tune the questions that you ask of yourself and the questions that you ask of life.

Questioning is a skill that requires great diligence and consistency of effort.

So when it comes to the question ‘what is money?’ or the question ‘what does success mean to me?’ may I suggest that there are a few other questions that you need to ask first and foremost before you arrive at the best answer.

Those questions are actually drawn from the wisdom already shared in the quote by Bob Dylan.

So here they are..

What do I love doing?

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself this question? I recently read a quote by Robert Kiyosaki on Twitter that went like this –  ‘School prepares students to be hungry for money rather than hungry for learning.’

Notice I have asked the question ‘what do I love doing?’ Not ‘how much money should I make in a year?’

Happiness in my daily endeavors is so much more important to me than just the money. However, the funny thing is, that the more I pursue what I love doing the more money I have positioned myself to make. And the more I do that which I love doing, the less it feels like work.

So what do you love doing?

Personally, I love creating new things. That’s why I am as happy creating gardens, books, successful business men and women through coaching, music, speeches, businesses, personal development courses, blog articles as I am creating multi-million dollar property deals.

How can I position myself to do what I love doing?

Positioning is vital if you wish to secure enduring success.

One of the key things that I have done throughout my life is to attach myself to a mentor or a coach. Some I have paid. Others I have taken out for a meal or a coffee. I have gone armed with written questions, and as they spoke I have taken copious notes. I have not wasted their time. I have respected their expertise by respecting their time.

I have had coaches in the areas of music, business, publishing, franchising, property, shares, blogging and more.

Whenever I have embarked on a completely new area in my life I have sought out a coach.

Every mentor I have had has added incredible value to my life.

Who will pay me to do what I love doing?

You and I must eat. So I must decide, that if I am going to spend most of my waking hours doing what I love then I am in some way going to have to earn an income.

So one of the first things I have done is identify the ultimate buyer of my products or services. I have located my niche. I have done this in every business I have owned, and it is for that reason that they have succeeded.

What is the point of having a business that sells a product or service that no one wants or can use?

I often advise those who are working a job, and who wish to become an entrepreneur, that they should develop their business on the side and double the job income before they take the leap, although I have never followed that rule. Rules are for breaking, didn’t you know? However, I still live to tell the story. But what I have just mentioned is wisdom that may be worth heeding if you wish a smoother transition.

How can I expand on what I love doing?

Never stop learning. My mother taught me this. She was the first in our family to embrace technology and even to this day is constantly interested in learning more and more so she can keep up with my children, my grandchildren and me.

Learning expands you. Learning prepares you to be flexible. Learning helps you to adapt. Never stop learning and you will continue to experience exponential growth in the area of doing what you love for the rest of your days.

Do what you love and love what you do. That is money. That is success.
