The One Indispensable Key To Unlocking Your Doorway To Success

Do you like this story?

‘If you’re not willing to do whatever it takes, you may as well stay in bed, roll over, and go back to sleep.’

After emptying my bank account to attend an Internet Marketing seminar some years ago, I passed onto my son some free online seminars that the seminar speaker had recommended. Within a short period of time it turned him into an Internet Guru. Ben proved to be extremely gifted in developing the engines that run websites, and so when he was only 14 I sided up to him and asked, ‘How would you like to start a web design business with me?’

Now, even to this day, I have no idea how to create a website, but I am a great marketer.

Ben agreed.

Pink & White Advertising Cards Lead To First Day Of Business Success

So on our first day of business, armed with some pink and white advertising cards(now there is a story behind this, but I will leave this to another day) I picked a factory area near where we lived and proceeded to knock on doors. The first business wasn’t interested. The second business purchased two websites, and by the end of the day I had successfully sold five websites.

Now you need to understand that Ben was only a technician, and so we still didn’t have a web designer on our team. But with a bit of intense searching, and a high degree of motivation, we found a young man who lived in Sydney to prepare our first designs.

Tragedy Strikes

The day came for me to present our first design to one of our new clients.

They hated it.

I can still feel the feeling when I received that call. At that very moment I had a decision to make. Throw in the whole idea of owning a web design business, as it was a crazy idea in the first place, or dig deep.

I chose to dig deep, and asked the client what they didn’t like about the design. They responded, ‘The photo.’

With some further investigation I found that they had very few good photos of their products, and so I said, ‘Put together a selection of your best products(Australian hats) and I will organize a photographer.’

So once I picked up the hats, I found myself amongst fields and paddocks, bushland, cows and wildlife with my digital camera, taking photos of these hats in a natural setting – from all sorts of creative angles.

Recovery From Tragedy

What was the end result when we re-presented the website?

They loved it.

From that day forward we created a successful web design company that serviced hundreds upon hundreds of happy customers in the years to follow.

What is the single key to success that we discovered?

You have to dig deep. You have to be creative. You have to pull in your belt and go for it. You have to push through – and in summary, to be a success you must be willing to do whatever it takes.

Have you a ‘whatever it takes’ story to share with us? I’d love to hear it.
