How To Have It All

You Can Have it AllPost written by Steve Roy.

We live in a world filled with unlimited opportunities, radiant sunshine, breathtaking scenery, and boundless experiences.

We also live in a world with crushing poverty, warring nations, corrupt politicians, and rampant drug abuse.

There isn’t a day that goes by that somebody somewhere doesn’t fulfill their wildest dreams, nor is there a day that somebody somewhere doesn’t fall into their lowest low.

Perception Is Everything

Some of us live in a luminescent world filled with joyous occasions, personal growth, and self-awareness while others live in an ominous world filled with self-loathing, unfulfillment and misery.

And the difference?

Perception. Nothing more.

Think about the last time you had a “negative” event take place. It could be your dog running away, your boyfriend leaving you, or your car running out of gas on the highway. Now think about the circumstances that followed.

How did you handle it? Think for a moment on what went through your mind as this event unfolded. Was your reaction to become unglued and lose control of your emotions? Did you get angry or belligerent? Did you shut down and hold all your angst inside?

Chances are you did one of the above. And while this is not wrong or uncommon in the least, it can and will prevent you from living your “ideal” life and having it all.

What if instead you chose to view these things as a positive? Maybe your boyfriend leaving you opens the door to you meeting your soul mate. Maybe your car running out of gas leads you to challenging yourself to walk five miles to a gas station.

Every single thing that happens in our lives can be construed as positive or negative. Things that happen to us are simply events, nothing more. It’s one hundred percent how we respond to these events that shape our lives and dictate how happy we are.

What Is Your Ideal Life?

Most of us will never take the time to actually figure out what our ideal life would look like. We wish for more (money/success/freedom/happiness, etc.), but that’s usually the extent of it. We can plan for a vacation to the beach all day long, but rarely does a person plan their life.

What if you took an hour, a day, or a week to plan out exactly what your best life would look like? Describe the details of where you would be, who you would be with, and what you would be doing.

Happiness comes from living life on your own terms. Having the freedom to control your time and energy are vital factors in being a happy person and living your ideal life.

We’ve all heard that life is what we make of it, and that’s exactly right. Life can be good, bad, or just plain awful. It’s your choice as to which it will be.

Choosing To Have It All

It sounds so cliché, but it’s entirely possible to have it all. Everyone’s definition of having it all will be different of course, and it’s up to you to decide what that means.

Maybe having it all is getting to spend your afternoons with your three-year-old daughter. Maybe it’s having enough money to live comfortably and be debt free. Maybe it’s living on a bluff in Malibu overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Or maybe it’s working for yourself, controlling your own destiny, being highly passionate, and loving the fact that you get to wake up each day and do something you want.

In all honesty, it doesn’t matter how you define your ideal life, rather that you do define it.

And once you determine how you would like your life to be, you need to do two things:

  1. Understand that you can live the life you desire. You cannot achieve it if you don’t truly believe it.
  2. Take daily action towards creating it.

Belief Is Not Enough

If you are a believer in the principles taught in “The Secret” and think that just by wishing for something, it will happen, you may be sorely disappointed.

Wishing has rarely been the cause of a great success. It’s about being positive, believing in yourself, and taking committed action towards a worthy goal.

The world is literally your oyster as you follow these three principles.

We all have choices. We can chose to continue doing what we have always done and get the same results. Or we can choose to follow our passions, believe that we can and will find our version of happiness, and move towards it each and every day.

I hope you choose the latter.
