How To Always Set Yourself Up For A Win

Do you like losing? No, I don’t either. There’s nothing pleasing about a loss.

That’s why I prefer winning. But in order to win you need to position yourself for a win.

So how do you always set yourself up for a win?

Allow me to share just four ways that I have found that have helped me, and I trust that they can be of assistance to you as well.

1. Decide what you really want

Indecision destroys forward progress.

If you are going to learn the process of winning, you must develop the habit of decisiveness. Your decision needs to be guided by desire. For it is desire that can be your major winning companion. For where there is desire there is a fire that will burn within your heart that will carry you all the way to victory.

Desire has discovered electricity, put the man on the moon, placed the iPhone in our hands and created all of the masterpieces in the arts that we enjoy. That is how powerful desire is.

So take time to ask yourself the powerful question, ‘What is it that I really want?’

Once the answer is found, you have immediately moved from a vague position of generality and positioned yourself in a focused state. This is a vital winning ingredient.

2. Make certain that your decision is aligned with your strengths

It is no use a seven-foot man desiring to ride a racehorse as a jockey.

Have I caught your attention with that example?

Every one of us has been endowed with certain physical and mental attributes that suit us better for some pursuits in favor of others.

This is where you need to make a personal stock take of your personal strengths.

•    What am I naturally designed to do?
•    What do I naturally lean towards?
•    What am I good at without any outside influence or even tuition?
•    What do I really enjoy doing?

By answering these few questions you are honing in on your strengths.

Now obviously you can’t do it all alone, and you may need to delegate some of your weaknesses.

But by simply going with the flow of your natural born talents you will find yourself not fighting against the tide, by rather shooting the rapids in pursuit of your win.

3. Attach yourself to a coach

Coaches come in many shapes and sizes. Choose one.

How do you do that?

Well once you’ve decided what you want to do, identify someone who has gone where you wish to go, and been successful at it, and ask them to coach you.

When working as a business coach I like to meet with my client either in person or over the phone for at least one hour a week. This allows me to steer and guide them consistently.

You may have to pay your coach for their services – and it really is worth every dollar invested, but there are many successful people who will love to help you for free, if you simply ask.

But, whether for free or for payment treat your coach professionally and with the utmost respect.

Also set an initial time frame for the period you will be requiring coaching. Sometimes you will need a coach for a few months, some for a year, while others may stay with you for a lifetime.

The value of a good coach is that they are unafraid to ask you the hard questions. They keep you accountable and can also see your position from a much clearer and unemotional perspective.

Sometimes we are so wrapped up in a project that we fail to comprehend what is really happening. That’s where a great coach steps in and helps you take full control of your life or business.

4. Don’t focus on the battle, but rather win the war

Just because you lose a battle doesn’t mean that you have to lose the war. Learn from each battle and you will position yourself to win the war.

Failure is a vital component of a winning life, so by simply using it as your teacher you can begin to gain valuable insight into how to perform at your optimal best.

Stand on the shoulders of yesterday’s failure and reach forward in the direction of your winning tomorrows.
