To Honour Is Honourable
I attended a business breakfast the other morning. My 20 year old daughter was attending as well. Without warning she was asked to give an impromptu speech. It was amazing how confidently she shared from her heart. And then, to my utmost surprise, she began to honour me, her father, before a group of over 50 adults – for the mentoring that I have provided for her, particularly over the past three years since she has been part of our Web Design Sales Team.
Well, I was done. The tears began to flow. And as I often share – that when my wife and I were married she had a handkerchief, and I used it. It doesn’t take much for my tap, connected to my eyes, to be turned on.
But what blessed me the most was the fact that she chose to honour me.
This is such an incredibly important quality that needs to be demonstrated more and more in our lives to those who mentor, coach or lead us.
It is so easy to take people for granted; especially the one’s who allow their precious time to be spent on you and I.
So my challenge to you today is : honour someone in your life. Do it in a public gathering. Do it in a private email. The way you do it really doesn’t matter. But the fact that you choose to do it, and do it on a regular basis, does.
