The Man Who Moved Men & Mountains

Many years ago my grandfather gave a gift to my dad. It was book that told the story of R. G. LeTourneau, and the title of the book was ‘Mover Of Men & Mountains’.

Many years later my dad handed me that same book, and I still have it in my possession to this day, and it was then that I was first introduced to this incredibly inspiring businessman.

In LeTourneau’s book he states that, ‘Some people think I’m all mixed up — that you can’t serve the Lord and business, too, but that’s just the point. God needs businessmen as partners as well as preachers. . . . When you go into partnership with God, you’ve got a Partner closer and more active than any human partner you can ever get. To Be Truly Great

‘It is to have in one the frailty of a man and the security of a God.’ Seneca

So in Seneca’s view there are two poignant points that equate to . So let’s look at them more closely.

1. The Frailty Of A Man

We are but ants in an expansive planet that sits within the vastness of a far greater universe. Specks we are. Twinkling stars in a spatial arena that is beyond explanation. Our greatest strengths exhibited do not even register on the scale of weakness when compared to the rest of creation.

2. The Security Of A God

The Apostle Paul, one of the greatest apostles who ever lived, wrote that God said to him that God’s ‘ comes into its own in your weaknesses’.

Pain is something that we would all like to avoid. My wife often says that if God had created men to bear children, there wouldn’t be any – children that is.

She’s not wrong. I’m living proof of this fact. When our first child was being born, amidst the battlefield of muck and blood, a nurse brought a glass of water for my wife, but I drank it.

Let’s face it. Tests are sent to test us. Sorry about stating the obvious. We all have tests that we must face in life. And they’re nothing like the tests we faced at school. They can come in the form of sickness, financial challenges, marital hiccups, or even through the loss of loved ones to that insidious event called death.

But the good news is this. We can turn any test into a . And the good book states that ‘there is power in the word of our ’.

As a writer of motivational books I often tell my friends, when I’ve gone through yet another testing moment, ‘Well there’s another story for my next book.’
