‘I prefer freedom with its dangers to tranquility with servitude.’ The Count Palatine Of Posen
I am reflecting on a recent speech given by one of our leading politicians in our nation this past week, where he has warned the government from overstepping the mark when it comes to the blanket censorship of the Internet in our land.
Now I am one who believes in responsible censorship – as a tool to protect their citizens, by at least giving them sufficient information so that they then can make their own informed and wise decisions for both themselves, and to also assist them as they guide their children to make wise choices.
But when it comes to a point where the government steps in to overtake even the possibility of having that freedom to choose, then this is where I believe a government has stepped in too far – by becoming BIG BROTHER.
And when it comes to the Internet they will be setting a precedent that could result in the creation of a ‘Cyberspace Curtain’. And from our historical experience of the iron curtain and the bamboo curtain which impinged on religious freedom, freedom of speech and political freedom – this action can only lead to the alienation of many in our society.

Emerson wrote these words way back in the 1800′s, and yet they still ring true today.
My daughter, just this past week, completed a university essay entitled ‘Mass Media’s Discordant Attack On Music’ that detailed the impact of mass media on true creativity, particularly in the realm of music, and it too spelt out the need for the resurgence of uniquity in our society.
And I suppose that it in some way reflects my own personal cry: ‘Where are the unique voices? Where are the unique sounds? Where are those who insist on themselves and who refuse to imitate others? Where are those who swim upstream? Where are the trendsetters? Where are the original thinkers? Where are the creative sparks? Where are the intrepid explorers of the unknown? Where are the one of a kinds?’

Here’s the lyrics to the latest song I’ve written….expressing the source of the freedom that I experience on a day to day basis here on planet earth….Peter Sinclair
YOU ARE MY FREEDOM
When I cry to you My God
I know you hear me
When I fix my eyes on you
You make me smile
When I call upon you
In my darkest hour
I know that you will come
In just a little while
PRE CHORUS:
For you are the only one
Who truly knows me
And you are the only one
Who gave your life
So that I could know
The sweetest taste of freedom
You gave me power to overcome
All pain and strife
CHORUS:
You are my freedom
You are my freedom
You are my freedom
Freedom
Freedom
CODA:
You are my freedom
You are my freedom
Freedom
Freedom
Freedom
Freedom
