‘A weak faith is weakened by predicaments and catastrophes whereas a strong faith is strengthened by them.’ Victor Frankl
Even before we were married, Shelley and I decided upon a name for my fledgling business. Together we came up with the name ‘Outasight Music’. At the time I was performing and recording professionally as a singer/songwriter – hence the music in the name.
But what about the word ‘Outasight’? The inspiration came from the scripture, ‘We walk by faith, not by sight’ 2 Corinthians 5:7, and the word ‘outasight’ is Australian slang for something that is of an excellent nature – or first class.

I recently came across some writings by the philosopher Bertrand Russell, and discovered that in 1927 he published a book, ‘Why I Am Not A Christian’.
So I am compelled to write this article, not a book, from the perspective of someone who is a Christian, not seeking to win an argument, but to simply relate from my own personal experience up to this point in my life.
I am not the first to write such a piece, but I always believe that one should never be ashamed of what they believe in and that we should always be forthright in sharing the foundations upon which our lives are built.
So here are five reasons why I am not an atheist.

‘When men pray, God stands to attention!’
I woke early the other morning, long before the sunlight had penetrated the darkness. It was cold and dark, so I turned on the heater and the lamp in the lounge room after quietly closing my bedroom door so that I didn’t disturb my wife.
As I sat down in my comfortable chair, I pulled out my iPhone, clicked on to my YouVersion Bible App and started to enjoy the words of David as recorded in the book of Psalms. David doesn’t hold back on his punches towards his enemies and his requests to his God. He speaks strongly, praises boldly, and pleads desperately.
And as I read Psalm after Psalm, there seemed to be a common thread throughout them. David’s God always came through for his man – ‘a man after his own heart’. And it was then that the statement, ‘When men pray, God stands to attention!’ burst into my mind.

Destruction is not the purpose of humanity, for all humans have been built to build.
And what are we to build?
1. We Are To Build Each Other
An encouraging word, a pat on the back, an uplifting text or email can change the course of one life in an instant. Be a builder, not a destroyer.
2. We Are To Build Strong Families
A nation is only as strong as the family unit. With the divorce epidemic rampant in our midst there is a need for us to stand up and say no to the ‘D’ word and to say yes to the ‘F’ word – and that word is FORGIVENESS.
3. We Are To Build Strong Economies
And how do we do that? By working diligently, by giving generously, by providing excellent service, by helping others, and by putting them first in all we do. For those in business – if you serve your customers and your staff well, then they will serve you well. And if you work for a boss, then take ownership of the business and act accordingly as though it is your very own.

I remember the night vividly. I was only a boy when I ran in front of a car. It was late at night, and I knew for a fact that an angelic force stood between me and the headlights of the vehicle, and that it wasn’t my time yet to leave this earth.
Then there was the time when my son was raised from the dead in my arms.
And then at another time Jesus turned up in my dreams one morning and miraculously and instantaneously healed my frozen shoulder.
Just those three instances alone confirmed to me that it was important to keep my eyes on the eternal. But there have been so many more instances, that if I recorded, all the miracles would fill volumes reporting the provisions, the protection, the sense of a greater presence directing me through all the mountains and valleys I’ve traversed.
