Insight speaks of penetration – of having a clear or deep perception of a situation, a feeling of understanding, and a grasping of the inner nature of things intuitively.
When I think of the word insight I think of cutting through all superficiality and exploring the depths. Delving beneath the surface. Searching for the truth. Not allowing oneself to be swayed by what appears on the top layer, but having the courage to investigate further and deeper.
Search for the truth, and develop the skills and the determination to do so.
Why?
For we live in an age where so much information is presented to us as the ‘truth’ and ‘nothing but the truth’.
But is it?
Recently there have been individuals in my nation who have lost all their life savings along with homes and other assets, because many of them had based their investment decisions purely on the endorsement by some respected government official or celebrity. Thorough personal investigation was traded for the cheaper and extremely costly version of surface perception and opinion. No insight was used.

‘I prefer freedom with its dangers to tranquility with servitude.’ The Count Palatine Of Posen
I am reflecting on a recent speech given by one of our leading politicians in our nation this past week, where he has warned the government from overstepping the mark when it comes to the blanket censorship of the Internet in our land.
Now I am one who believes in responsible censorship – as a tool to protect their citizens, by at least giving them sufficient information so that they then can make their own informed and wise decisions for both themselves, and to also assist them as they guide their children to make wise choices.
But when it comes to a point where the government steps in to overtake even the possibility of having that freedom to choose, then this is where I believe a government has stepped in too far – by becoming BIG BROTHER.
And when it comes to the Internet they will be setting a precedent that could result in the creation of a ‘Cyberspace Curtain’. And from our historical experience of the iron curtain and the bamboo curtain which impinged on religious freedom, freedom of speech and political freedom – this action can only lead to the alienation of many in our society.

‘It were better that in Causes of weight, the Matter were propounded one day, and not spoken to, till the next day.’ Sir Francis Bacon
Recently, because of the thoughtless and stupid actions of another, I was devastated.
My first reaction was just that – to react. But fortunately I was reminded of the wise counsel given to me by Sir Francis. For a lot can happen in a man’s heart between ‘one day’ and ‘the next day’. So it is wisdom, when having to deal with ‘Causes of weight’, that we learn to ‘sleep on it’.
So I wrote pages of notes on the ‘one day’, responding as to how wrong I felt the decision and directives were from the other party. I stated my case in a full and logical format, but even by writing, which I thought would be therapeutic, I still felt betrayed, wounded and miserable for the entire day.
Even when I woke up the following morning, the events of the previous day were still stinging my heart. So I wrote some more. But by midday, I’m pleased to report that, I’d gained a fresher perspective on the matter, and was given a better, more positive plan, to respond to what had been done to me.

The choices that we make on a minute by minute basis determine our destiny.
Every choice chosen has an immediate impact on our lives and on the lives of others. So when it comes to making choices – choose wisely.
In the scriptures we’re reminded of a time when a whole nation was given an instruction about making choices, and the two words that echo throughout the annals of history still hold true to this day, and they are the words, ‘Choose life!’
So how do we determine which choice to choose?
It’s quite simple.

I received this memo from myself the other day. It challenged me….trust it does the same for you…
‘Sitting on the fence can only ever get you one thing. SPLINTERS!’
Decide to decide and you won’t slide. You’ll soar. There is something wonderful about making a decision and then acting on it. It empowers you. It builds confidence. It grows you. A decision maker has strong character and is in fact filled with leadership qualities because they are at the helm of their ship. So make it your practice to be ever more definite in the decision making process. Gather all the facts through thorough research, interview those who have done what you want to do and been where you want to go, but then trust yourself as you make a bold decision for your life. Don’t leave the decision making process to others, because this will only lead to one thing; a life that you did not plan on living. It’s your life, so decide what you want to do, leap the fence and go do it.
