Best Friends Stab You In The Front
As I was driving today I noticed the statement ‘Best Friends Stab You In The Front’ painted onto the back of a van that I was following. It struck a cord with me. Only enemies stab you in the back. And the Bible states that ‘Faithful are the wounds of a friend.’
Now none of us like hearing a ‘tough word’- especially from a friend. But the facts are that if we are to ever grow, we need to be open to correction – particularly from those whom we know love us.
I know that the friends that I have had to speak a ‘tough word’ at times, have actually become closer friends as a result. They knew that what I was saying was said in love. I wasn’t running away from them after I’d spoken. I was in fact running towards them and was committed to sticking with them, no matter what.
And the same goes for those whom I’ve held myself accountable to. At times we need a good loving kick up the proverbial backside, if we are to ever become all that God has created us to be. And when the stab comes from the front, not the back, you know that you just might have found a true friend.
